It was time for a change now that the wedding planning is over, so I’ve moved here.

We went to see the Pixies the day after we reached the two month mark. We’ve been trying to do something at least each month so that we have some dedicated couple time. I refuse to call it date night and to fix an actual date that we do these things on, it’s more of picking something we want to do and actually being a couple.

Anyway back to the Pixies it was AMAZING!

The warm up band were a Sydney band called The Art and I’m pretty sure that their lead singer was made of play-doh and springs. He was definitely an entertaining frontman and they didn’t suck. It is to be noted that the singer is only HFFA. They have a myspace of course.

The Pixies were of course fantastic, the lighting and visuals that were a part of the show were really inspiring. I’m hoping to start painting again this weekend, I have some new things that I want to try because of the show.

It was incredibly hot and stuffy in the theatre and I kind of felt a bit old and slack, mostly because there was a 60-70ish man who danced for the entire night while just watching was slaughtering me in the heat.

We bought a cd of the show which was a pretty nice memento despite the incompetent organisation which meant we lined up were moved in to a different line so we had to line up for a ridiculous amount of time while old lady me whined because I had to work the next day. I’m still glad we got it though the last song for the night and therefore on the second disc was the song we walked down the aisle to, a really lovely song to end the night on and to continue to celebrate our marriage with.

I have a wonderful husband, when I’m stressed and tired he shoos me off to bed and tucks me in for a nanna nap.

When I’m irrationally jealous he doesn’t get mad or demean me he comforts me and reminds me all of the ways he loves me.

Tomorrow I’m making him breakfast in bed as a surprise

Our own house. I’m tired of renting and we have to move again because when our lease ends they are tearing this house down.

A permanent job. Still temp, wondering what the motivation is to fix the massive mess the last person left if there is no security. Like it there all the same.

A bunny, we really shouldn’t have gone in to Pets Paradise today. I saw the most adorable bunny there (and I’m not really sure rabbits should be allowed as pets in Australia). But this bunny had the cutest markings around it’s eyes.

Super early birthday present ( I think not pets + renting not a good combination )

This is the last of my wedding recaps, I’m not sure how much I’ll put of the reception here, just enough to show you how much fun we had after the wedding. We had to kick everyone out at 12, I’m not sure how long they hung around the front of the venue for afterwards, we raced back to our hotel to, you know, “be alone”.

We decided to do the first dance, which ended up being reminiscent of our first date.

You see we had known each other for a couple of years before our first date but not well, we’d never spent any time alone or any real length of time face to face.
While we’ve come to know that we are incredibly similar people there is one big difference (and no not our height in this case) that seemed a big deal to me at the beginning, our ages.

Because of this I went in to our first date half wondering if this was a horrible practical joke about to backfire on him.

He came in to our first date thinking there was no way I would take him seriously.

We were both incredibly awkward, so awkward that it’s probably very surprising that we had our second date the next night, and since then have spent 1 single night apart. Neither of us liked that night apart and are quite happy that it has been the only one we’ve had apart.

So while we didn’t dance gracefully or break out into some amazing routine, I think it fit perfectly with who we are, two somewhat clumsy and occasionally awkward people who are very much in love dancing to our own tune.*

A rainbow of cake

Making your own cake, it’s kind of a dumb idea if you can’t deal with spiking stress levels. That said it was an incredibly rewarding and massively cost saving experience.

The biggest issue I had was the icing, i’ve mentioned it enough not to go on about it anymore… Except to let you in in the secret that saved my sanity and ultimately I wish I had have given in to earlier but I was being a snob.

In the end my cake was crumb coated and filled between the layers with the lemon meringue buttercream I had made the night before. The outer layer however was a big fat shortcut, I used Betty Crocker pre-made icing and added Wiltons White White and a little lemon to it. Now I have no shame using pre-made icing on birthday cakes or cupcakes but for some reason my inner snob was not coming to the party in using it on wedding cake, my inner snob is an idiot.

It works amazingly and although a little sweet the consistency is fantastic and saved us from not having a cake.

We cut the cake and served it to our guests which was something I wanted to do it didn’t quite work out as the chatting with our guests while I got them cake ideal that I envisioned but it worked out fine, these things never quite go how we picture them.

So that’s our cake, I think it was worth the stress, it tasted good too – White Chocolate and Raspberry with Lemon Meringue(ish) icing.

I’ve been lazy I know there have been a few things going on which takes away from the fun of reflecting back on our day to share it with others.

So to tide people over I thought I would start back again with the detail shots that I love. I decided to confine the majority of this to one blog post as I know how OVER the details we all get at a certain point of the planning and this way they are easy to avoid if you’re at that point.
